The company was founded in 1949 by Giulio Castelli, and it has been worldwide known in 1988 when it has been acquired by Claudio Luti, who decided to collaborate with designers and architects, such as Patricia Urquiola, Vico Magistretti, Philippe Stark and Piero Lissoni who gave life to products that have become symbols of the brand and design icons. Kartell is different from all other furniture design brands for its choice of materials, in fact it was the first company in the world that used plastic for the production of furniture, a choice that gave to the brand the opportunity to create products with characteristics never seen before. One of the first successful pieces is La Marie and Louis Ghost chair, made of completely transparent plastic and characterized by timeless, modern and minimal design.
