Cassina was founded in 1927 by Cesare and Umberto Cassina in Meda (Italy); today the Company is part of the Poltrona Frau Group. From the beginning the production was of small wooden furniture, the brand has subsequently expanded its collection by including sofas, armchairs, chairs and furnishing accessories, becoming over the years a leader in the international panorama of contemporary furniture. In his history, it was the succession of collaborations with authoritative designers such as F. Albini, creator of small armchairs mod. 43 and G. Ponti that gives life to one of the archetypes of Italian design: the La Leggera chair and later the Superleggera.
In the Sixties the collaboration of Afra and Tobia Scarpa began, which also resulted in a series of solid wood furniture. On 1964 Le Corbusier recognized Cassina’s extraordinary industrial capacity and signed with the company the first of a series of exclusive licensing contracts for the production of some of its models. Of the many, the LC Collection has universal popularity and the LC2 armchair is one of the best-selling objects in the design world.
In the 1990s, the French designers Philippe Starck and Jean Marie Massaud also designed for the company.
